Contact stomatitis is an allergic reaction of immediate contact, similar to contact hives.

Mucosal erythema and edema areas occur upon contact with allergens (tongue, lips).

Among the most common allergens:

• food (cinnamon, propolis);
• toothpastes

Treatment:

• allergen removal (for mild cases), treatment with antihistamines or steroids.
