The maxillary sinus is the most voluminous cavity, that forms since the prenatal state, in the womb. Its many functions such as filtration, heating, modifying the air we breath etc. talk about its importance.

The sinus, through the position it has, has an anatomical relationship with the lateral teeth of the upper arch, specifically with their apexes, causing many sinus pathologies to be related to the teeth with dental problems which have these sinus connections.
